When choosing your slipper boots, please note the size listed in the product title and accompanying bullet points.

All our slippers are personally sized and should comfortably fit the size stated, however some of our listings are shown as being suitable for two sizes e.g. 9 to 10.

In these cases, the slippers should comfortably fit the larger size ( 10 ) and may also be considered to be a looser fit for the smaller size ( 9 ), leaving plenty of room to move around in.

Please consider whether you prefer ‘snug’ or ‘loose  fitting’ slippers when choosing your size.

Due to their handmade nature, every pair will differ to some extent regarding their length width and height, so even those listed as a similar size may have slightly different inside measurements from the next.

If you find your chosen size is a reasonably good fit but not quite 100% perfect when you receive them, please remember they are made of wool which does offer some leeway and will adjust once they have been worn in a little.

The Ivory Nut Palm

Bearing large clusters of fruits that contain special ivory like seeds known as Tagua nuts, these palms grow along the banks of rivers along the Amazonian basin through Colombia, Bolivia and Peru.

These seeds are almost identical in colour, texture and hardness to elephant ivory and are carved in a similar fashion, providing a perfect alternative to the slaughter of elephants for their tusks.

Vegetable ivory is a wonderful, sustainable, natural resource and it’s export and use in the making of jewellery, carvings and countless other beautiful artifacts helps boost the economies of it’s native countries. It also provides a good alternative to the destruction of rainforests and animals for illegal or unsustainable produce.

This palm is leading the way in the battle to save it’s natural jungle habitat as more areas of forest are preserved in order produce more of this wonderful material.

Mount Illimani is Bolivia’s second highest mountain. It’s beautiful, permanently snow covered peaks dominate the skyline of the world’s highest capital city – La Paz. Standing at 6438 metres above sea level, it is the highest peak in the range of mountains known as the Cordillera Real.

Although not being graded as an exceptionally difficult peak, Mt. Illimani is a favourite destination for climbers and expeditions from all around the world. Reaching the summit is challenging and with the help of local guides should take the average climber around four days.

The Road of Death

…

Descending through Bolivia’s beautiful mountain terrain, winding through hilltops and cliffsides with no safety barriers to protect travelling vehicles from vast 2000 ft roadside drops, it is little wonder the treacherous path claims the lives of hundreds of victims a year and is officially known as the ‘world’s most dangerous road’.

Although the rest of Bolivia drives on the right hand side, the road to Coroico has it’s own rules. Vehicles must drive on the left side of the road, allowing ascending drivers more visibility from their left hand drive vehicles.

Those descending gain safety and right of way on the inside, whilst those ascending the mountain carefully inch their way past oncoming vehicles, staring down the mountain’s edge as they struggle to avoid the treacherous canyons below.

The North Yungus, also more pleasantly known as Grove’s Road has a sister causeway, Chulumani Road (South Yungus Road) connecting La Paz to Chulumani, which is almost as deadly.

Thankfully, the most treacherous section of the infamous road of death has now been modernised with a new route bypassing one of the most dangerous stretches, resulting in less traffic frequenting the old road.

Walata Concert Tweaked Quena – Kena Flute – Bamboo with Deluxe Case

The Aymara quena (kena) is a traditional Andean flute commonly used in many areas of traditional Peruvian music. The quena produces an exceptionally beautiful sound and has been played by the indigenous tribes of South America and their ancestors for generations, once being revered as a sacred icon.

Although originating from the mountains of South America, the quena is a favourite of musicians and woodwind players all around the world.

These instruments are made from various materials including bamboo, bone and other rare woods such as Jacaranda and Wayacan.

They can have 4, 5 or 6 holes in the front, one at the back, and a u shaped notch at the mouth. The six hole quena has a musical span of 3 octaves.

The concert quenas you see here are superb instruments made from South American bamboo.

Concert Tweaked Bamboo Quena

All the flutes for sale on Original Artisan operate at high levels and these Walata flutes are no exception.

These have also been specifically 'tweaked' by the producers to ensure they perform to an expert standard.

These Walata bamboo quena flutes are thicker, more rustic and slightly harder to play than other types of bamboo quena. Suitable for the more experienced quena player, this Walata flute produces a more solid, sweeter sound than many of it's rivals.

Utilising skill and technique from a more experienced level to achieve new heights of play, the advanced flutist will gain a greater sense of pleasure from playing this flute than other more easily mastered flutes.

These bamboo quenas are unvarnished and have a beautifully rugged, rustic type look and a real sense of beauty about them.

These were created by a professional Bolivian luthier, centered in the heart of La Paz who is also a highly skilled musician. Like most of our other artisans, this luthier has been making and playing these instruments in South America for many years.

Concert tuned to the scale of Sol Major (G) / Mi minor (Em).

Measuring 14.75 inches long and 1 inch wide, each quena flute has it's own unique characteristics, showing differences in colour, grain and dressing.

We understand buying an instrument online can be tricky and making a purchase decision based purely on photos and text often isn’t enough to help find the right flute for your needs.

The sound in the first half of these videos has not been enhanced in any way and was recorded at home using a basic webcam and nothing else. As you can hear, this Mamani concert quena has an amazing sound without the need for expensive mics, eq or effects.

Many songs, videos and quena demos found online are recorded professionally with added eq and effects such as reverb and delay to enhance that ‘mystical’ feeling produced by these instruments.

So to keep our demos in line with others on the web and to give you an idea of how our flutes sound in comparison, I have included some basic reverb in the last half of each sample, to give our vids that real ‘Spirit of the Andes’ touch you’ll be familiar with.

All our alpaca hats are generally labelled ‘one size fits all’. Due to their handmade nature, each hat varies slightly in size from the next. Although sizes differ slightly, they stretch easily and will generally fit most medium sized adults and children.

Leather Belts with Traditional Andean Weavings

One of the nicest aspects of these leather belts is that each comes with it’s own traditional tribal weaving sewn in sections throughout it’s length, making each belt individual and unique.

These woven sections are sourced from original tribal weavings and recycled to make many types of usable item, including garments and accessories like our Andean waist pouches with weavings and other crafts such as tribal statues, wallets and purses.

Money Belts

Many of our leather belts also double as money belts, featuring a secret zipped compartment along the back of the belt suitable for notes and coins.

Choosing Your Belt Size

Belts come in various sizes ( shown in our listing titles ) and vary in small increments.

Regarding the length, apart from waist size, many people wear belts in different ways preferring differing lengths of overlap depending on their style.

For this reason we believe the best way of ensuring a belt will fit, is for buyers to measure one of their own belts from end to end ( including the buckle ) in centimetres and compare it with our sizes which are also measured from end to end. i.e. from the furthest tip of one end of the belt, right to the furthest tip of the other end, including the metal buckle.
