This charango has no conspicuous dents, faults or abrasions and is a lovely looking instrument. The lower V shaped edges of the mother of pearl, although varnished and beautifully smooth, does appear to have a slightly rough edge under the varnish. This is a minor cosmetic issue as a result of a soundboard upgrade by our luthiers. There are also two white coloured markings shown on the back of the neck, again these are perfectly smooth and also under the varnish. Purely minor cosmetic issues that have no effect on the sound or playability of this instrument.

This charango really is a lovely example with no conspicuous dents or abrasions, apart from a small lacquer pin hole bubble visible in the front side of the headstock. There are also two hairline cracks in the very top section of the headstock, which can be seen under close inspection. Please see pictures 16 – 19 of our gallery images. These hairline cracks are under the lacquer and have been there since it's creation  and do not affect the instrument in any way.

They are 10ml and 5ml in length and although they have no affect on the sound quality or construction of this excellent instrument, for aesthetic reasons, we have included a discount for customer satisfaction.

Tuned to Gm Pentatonic and measuring 50 cm long and 3.5 cm wide with 5 holes at the front, the construction of these native instruments makes them very easy to play.

This beautiful native American flute is hand crafted from Bolivian Jacaranda wood and comes with a free colourful woven case.

Tuned to Gm Pentatonic and measuring 50 cm long and 3.5 cm wide with 5 holes at the front, the construction of these native instruments makes them very easy to play.

Air from the mouthpiece passes through the wind chamber and is automatically split across the fipple, producing the flute's distinctive notes with ease, making this instrument a perfect flute for beginners and advanced players alike.

The flute can be adjusted by untying the leather strap, moving the block position across the sound hole and re-lashing it to the users preference.

The pan pipe, also known as the pan flute or zampona is probably one of the most well known traditional musical instruments of the Andes.

Played by the indigenous Andean tribes people for generations, these beautiful instruments come in many shapes and sizes and vary in name depending on the particular regions they come from.

Known by the Quechua tribes as the antara, by the Aymara as the the siku or zampolla, and more commonly referred to as the Spanish zampona, these handmade Bolivian panpipes produce a beautiful sound reminiscent of their ancestral heritage and worthy of concert performance.

As with all our instruments, these zamponas are of professional grade and should not be confused with souvenir type panpipes, fashioned for the South American tourist market.

Traditionally crafted in Bolivia by Mamani, our highly regarded luthier who also makes many of the flutes here on Original Artisan, these pan pipes come with a woven zampona case to protect the instrument from changes in temperature and humidity.

Tuning

There are 4 kinds of zampona, each tuned 1/8 of an octave higher than it's sibling. The lowest known as the Toyos, then the Zankas, the Maltas and the highest being the Chulis.

Chromatic Tuning

These particular pan pipes are of the Malta type and are comprised of 30 bamboo tubes of varying lengths, fashioned in 3 rows of 11, 10 and 9 pipes.

The first two rows producing notes of of Sol Major (G) and the third row producing the chromatic intervals. It's deep vibrations produce a truly beautiful sound that captures the spirit of the Andean people in a timeless harmony.

The longest pipe measures an inside length of 17 inches with an inside diameter of 1/2 an inch.

Zampona Case

This zampona comes with a free woven case.

Aymara Tweaked Carved Eagle – Concert Quena – Kena – Flute

The Aymara quena (kena) is a traditional Andean flute commonly used in many areas of traditional Peruvian music. The quena produces an exceptionally beautiful sound and has been played by the indigenous tribes of South America and their ancestors for generations, once being revered as a sacred icon.

Although originating from the mountains of South America, the quena is a favourite of musicians and woodwind players all around the world.

These instruments are made from various materials including bamboo, bone and other rare woods such as Jacaranda and Guayacan (Wayacan).

They can have 4, 5 or 6 holes in the front, one at the back, and a u shaped notch at the mouth. The six hole quena has a musical span of 3 octaves.

The professional quenas you see here are exceptional instruments made from Jacaranda, a beautiful wood native to South America.
