Aquila’s D Type Wound strings have been developed to complement their famous and highly regarded New Nylgut treble strings when replacing real gut strings for wound strings in Lutes and other plucked string instruments.
These Copper Wound Lute strings feature Aquila’s New Nylgut Multifilament Core which mimics the excellent sound qualities of genuine gut whilst maintaining the beneficial properties of modern day synthetic strings.
For simplicity, these Lute strings have identity codes featuring a number followed by the Letter D. The number indicates the equivalent diameter of a real gut string.
For example, a code such as 140D indicates the string is the equivalent to a plain real gut string of 1.40mm in diameter. The actual diameter of the string is smaller but under playing conditions the Copper Wound D string will have the same working tension as a plain gut string of 1.40mm in diameter. A 100D would be equivalent to a real gut string of 1.0mm
