Aquila New Nylgut strings have been developed to mimic the excellent sound qualities of genuine gut whilst maintaining the beneficial properties of modern day synthetic strings.
Considered to be the first synthetic version of gut, Aquila New Nylgut strings are distinguished by their colouring, similar to that of real gut whilst also possessing the same specific material weight as gut. This means ‘in theory’ the gauges used for real gut strings are the same or very similar for Nylgut.
Players should note that New Nylgut Strings will elongate and stretch a little more than gut strings when under tension and in doing so will lose a small percentage of their diameter. It is therefore suggested that in practice, a slightly larger gauge New Nylgut string should be chosen than one would use for a gut string.
For example, if a player calculates a genuine gut string of 0.44mm is needed, Aquila suggest using a slightly larger New Nylgut string of 0.46mm.
New Nylgut strings are the ideal choice for Lute, Harp or any plucked string instrument.
